Expectation Setting: Adaptogens Work Slowly

I’ve always been an overachiever. I launched my first business at 22, and by 36 I was sitting on global boards, surrounded by high-stakes decisions and even higher expectations. I learned how to operate in fast environments, how to perform under pressure, and how to keep going even when most people would slow down. That rhythm became normal for me.

But what people don’t always see is what that kind of pace does behind the scenes. Constant stimulation, constant movement, constant decision-making—it adds up. My schedule is rarely stable. I’m always traveling between time zones, adjusting to new environments, new foods, new routines. It’s exciting, and I genuinely love it, but it also asks a lot from your body.

Over time, the signals became harder to ignore. This wasn’t just a vague sense of imbalance—the anxiety and insomnia were real. I would wake up tired and rely on quick fixes throughout the day to keep going, especially sugary snacks that gave me fast energy just to stay sharp throughout the day. My system felt constantly “on,” even when I wanted to rest, and that rhythm started to take a toll.

What I came to understand is that it wasn’t just about falling asleep—it was about the quality of that sleep.

We’re used to things that work instantly—coffee, sugar, quick fixes. Adaptogens are different. They’re not designed to override your system or create an immediate spike. They work gradually, supporting your body over time, which means the results are subtle at first. Easy to miss if you’re not paying attention.

This is where most people give up.

They try it once, maybe twice, and decide it “didn’t work.” But that expectation is based on the wrong model. Adaptogens are not a one-time intervention—they’re a relationship. The shift happens through consistency, not intensity.

For me, Quietude became that anchor. 

Not because it changed everything overnight, but because it gave me a moment to reset within the chaos. A daily pause that traveled with me, no matter where I was—airport, hotel room, meeting, or home. Over time, that small ritual started to create a bigger impact.

If anything, the biggest shift wasn’t physical—it was mental. I stopped expecting immediate results and started trusting the process. I stopped looking for something to “fix” me and started building something that supports me.

Because the truth is, we’re not meant to stay still.

We’re meant to move, explore, build, travel, and create. The goal isn’t to eliminate stress—it’s to become more resilient within it.

And sometimes, that starts with something as simple as a daily ritual you commit to, even when nothing feels different yet.
